Aba started off her practice in Personal Injury (Plaintiff Side) where she prepared comprehensive quantum assessments to aid in settling files. She also assisted with trial preparation, extensive legal research to aid in trial preparation and effectively handled her workload. She moved on to a generalist role where she focused on personal injury, family law, employment law and human rights law. She is currently an independent contractor with Up Legal Group LLP, based in Vancouver. She is also a Freelance Lawyer on two platforms – Flex Legal Network and MT Align (a wing of McCarthy Tétrault). Her current practice focuses on Personal Injury defence work. She operates completely remotely and provides comprehensive file reviews with appropriate and effective defence strategies. She also provides support in the form of preparing Examinations for Discovery reports, together with quantum assessments and recommendations and strategies for effective resolution of the file either through negotiation, mediation or trial. She provides coverage for lawyer absences and keeps their files moving along in their absence to provide the client with continuity of legal services. She prepares court documents including chambers applications for several reasons including compelling document production, compelling attendance at an Independent Medical Examination, changing plea from admission to liable and vice versa, moving a minor injury file from Supreme Court of BC to the Civil Resolution Tribunal, applying for a stay of proceedings for want of prosecution, severing quantum and liability. She undertakes one-off projects including trial focused research with thorough memoranda of law. She has conducted Examinations for Discovery, Chambers Applications and Trial.
Aba has very strong research skills and produces succinct reports of her findings. She is very organized and has the ability to review medical records and provide quantum assessments and settlement proposals for personal injury plaintiff cases. She has produced over 100 quantum assessments and most of her files were settled based on either the settlement she had proposed or very close to what she proposed. This is because her reviews were comprehensive and provided little room for the other side’s disagreement. She has keen analytical skills and always strives to be fair and unbiased in her assessments. Aba has the drive and tenacity to juggle multiple goals and tasks simultaneously and also balance her work and personal challenges. For example, she wrote and published a Ghanaian cookbook to assist her in saving up for my law school expenses. Her ambition is to ensure that fairness is always present in her decision-making both personally and professionally. This ambition plays out in her professional work and her clients benefit from this immensely. The feedback she receives from her clients and colleagues have always been positive. Her interpersonal skills are one of her strongest attributes. She values building client relationships and advocating successfully for them. She is an advocate for the voiceless and has shown this by engaging in her local community. For example, she assisted with setting up a legal clinic within her church community where she provided basic guidance and directed users to free legal resources and specialist legal clinics. She is currently involved in a foundation which supports orphanages and schools in Ghana. She also supports Eastwood Anaba Ministries, a worldwide ministry focusing on social transformation and other worthwhile projects. Aba is looking to provide these services on a fully remote, flexible basis either part-time or on a contractual basis. She is available to be called upon to cover busy periods or lawyer absences or when assistance is needed for specific projects.
